Yogyakarta –
Gaining admission to the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) at Universitas
Islam Negeri (UIN) Sunan Kalijaga is no easy feat. From thousands of
applicants, only a few hundred are accepted, making every newcomer a “selected
student.” Through the “Parents Gathering of New Students 2025,”
held on Wednesday (August 27, 2025), the faculty emphasized that academic
success is not solely the responsibility of the university but must be
supported through strong collaboration between students, parents, and the
institution.
Vice Rector for Academic and Institutional
Affairs, Prof.
Dr. Istiningsih, highlighted the vital role of parents in ensuring
their children’s success. She expressed appreciation for the support shown
through the parents’ participation. “Your
presence here today is something truly valuable and important, as together we
join hands to encourage the smooth progress of our children’s studies. Students
admitted to the Faculty of Science and Technology are indeed selected students,
considering the high level of interest from applicants each year,” she
affirmed.
Echoing the sentiment, Dean of FST, Prof. Dr. Khurul
Wardati, stressed that university students are no longer high
school pupils, but young adults who require collective support. “Academic success cannot simply be handed over to
the university alone. Strong synergy with parents is essential to ensure that
the learning and guidance process runs effectively,” she stated.
During the academic briefing, faculty leaders
explained that FST’s curriculum is structured to be completed within four
years, with opportunities for outstanding students to graduate sooner. In their
first year, all new students are required to undergo foundational training in
English, Arabic, and information technology. “In
the first year, we provide Arabic, English, and ICT training at the beginner
level for all students,” explained one of the panelists. In addition,
students are required to take part in the Religious and Indonesian
Development Program (PPKK), which aims to instill the values of
religious moderation.
The program concluded with an interactive
Q&A session addressing critical issues such as tuition fees (UKT),
scholarships, and the role of Academic Advisors (DPA) as parent partners on
campus. The discussion underscored UIN Sunan Kalijaga’s commitment not only to
educating students but also to fostering a strong partnership with families.
Through this synergy, FST UIN Sunan Kalijaga
is confident it can nurture an outstanding generation of graduates with
integrity, prepared to face academic challenges and global transformations in
the digital era. (humassk)
