YOGYAKARTA, Indonesia — For Fahrul Nurkolis, the journey from a university lab in Yogyakarta to the grand halls of the Palais des Congrès in Paris was years in the making. The young researcher from UIN Sunan Kalijaga presented a breakthrough at the International Congress of Nutrition (ICN) 2025, introducing a new compound: Juanleoxy Fahrulanoside (C12H23NO9). Derived from Delites, a native Indonesian herbal, enriched with traditional Chinese formulas, the compound represents a fusion of local knowledge and global science, recently published in the prestigious Frontiers in Nutrition.
“I never imagined that years of persistent research and collaboration would lead me here,” Fahrul shared, reflecting on the long path of experimentation, publications, and international partnerships. “Science is not just about results—it’s about offering solutions that can improve lives worldwide.”
ICN’s selection process is notoriously rigorous. Fahrul and his colleague, Juan Leanordo, were among thousands of scientists, yet only a handful were invited to present in official sessions. “Being one of only two Indonesians to showcase new findings on this stage is an immense honor. It proves that with dedication, our research can resonate globally,” he said.
UIN Sunan Kalijaga celebrates this milestone as a testament to its commitment to nurturing young scientists capable of competing internationally. Fahrul’s achievement not only inspires the university community but also signals Indonesia’s growing presence in global scientific innovation. “This is just the beginning,” Fahrul said. “Every experiment, every collaboration, every challenge brings us closer to making meaningful contributions to the world.”
