Yogyakarta, October 6, 2025
— UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta officially launched its Master’s Program in Sociology of
Religion, marking a new milestone in the university’s mission
to integrate Islamic scholarship with social transformation.
The program, approved under the Decree of the
Minister of Religious Affairs No. 880 of 2025, was formally
handed over by Rector Prof. Dr. Noorhaidi Hasan to Dean of the
Faculty of Ushuluddin and Islamic Thought (FUPI), Prof. Dr. Robby Habibah
Abror, M.Hum., during a ceremony at the Rectorate Building on
Monday (Oct. 6).
Rector Prof. Noorhaidi Hasan emphasized
that the new program embodies the university’s vision, “Empowering Knowledge, Shaping the Future.”
“This initiative strengthens UIN’s commitment
to developing transformative knowledge that responds to Indonesia’s complex
socio-religious realities,” he said.
Dean Prof. Robby Habibah Abror described
the program as a key pillar in making FUPI a fully
impacted faculty—a faculty that delivers real intellectual and social
value.
“Sociology of Religion is essential for
cultivating scholars who can critically understand diversity and build an
inclusive, just society,” she affirmed.
Set
to begin student admissions in the upcoming academic year, the program
underscores UIN Sunan Kalijaga’s evolving role as a center for inclusive,
interdisciplinary education—where faith, science, and humanity
meet to shape the nation’s future. (humassk)
